who: The children/teenagers of the circus when: June 17th, late morning ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Miku took a deep breath, enjoying the freash air, its smell a slight mixture of forest greens and lingering carnival foods. The sunlight reaching through the tree branches felt warm against her skin. It had been days since she last remembered she has been outside, let alone in the day time. But the fact that she finally was let outside, even if it was only for a little bit, made her feel at least a little bit more cheerful. The days since she had first woken up in the circus had been progressingly more miserable, melding into one another. Either she was locked up in her cage, with meager nutrition and bathing, being dolled up, or the few performances so far, she could lose herself for a bit in her singing. There was some applause, but the audience seemed cruel, laughing and jeering, some trying to grab at her.... why were they like that... And she was so lonely... She hasn't even seen Miss Mina around lately... For a moment she looked out at the forest beyond, now that she was out, perhaps she could finally get the chance to run away, and she would be free.... She started to take some shaky steps ...

Unfortunately for Miku, Toby had been keeping a close eye on her since she'd been released into the yard. For two reasons; one, Facilier had instructed him to, and he knew better than to argue with the man, and two, he could admit that he was a little curious about the girl. Despite the fact that she'd been so horridly mutilated by the workers, and the fact that Toby would never admit it aloud, he found her not so bad to look at...pretty, even.
But, whether she was pretty or not, she was still a cast member, and he was still in charge of her. Even if she was older than him, Toby was more or less the slavedriver in this situation, and the heavy stick in his right hand indicated that he was aware of this fact. Facilier had given it to him after seeing the boy limping a little from the ordeal with the strange masked man and his bodyguard, and told him that he was free to use it, if need be. He hadn't exactly specified what "using it" entailed, but Toby had more or less figured it out when the worker had pushed him towards the yard, new stick in hand, pointing at the goat girl standing out there alone.
"'ey," Toby called out, frowning as he approached the girl. He stared towards the direction she was facing, taking note of the thick woods and the hopefulness that appeared to be in her steps.
"I wouldn't do that if I was you, miss," Toby said, his frown softening just a hair. "They's watchin' you...sent me to keep an eye on you, they did. But no doubt they watchin' you just the same. You take one step towards that fence, they'll be on you like a pack of dogs."

Miku heard the boy and stopped. She knew that he was right. If she did try to make a run for it, There was no way she would make it. She was too weak. She gave a melancholic sigh and looked over at him. Her aquamarine eyes were clearly showing pain. "Why...?" She asked, perhaps a question that she had asked quite a few times yet, but she never really got a straight answer. "Why did they do this to me...?"

Toby only stared as a response for a few moments. Why? It was a question he'd asked himself about a lot of things. Maybe there was no answer to it at all. There was often no reasoning to these things; the answer was simply "because."
"I...don' know, Miss," Toby shrugged after a few moments. His gaze had softened for a brief moment. During those brief glimpses, the real Toby could be seen, not this hardened shell of a boy forced to grow up too fast. And then, all too soon it went away, and his brown gaze hardened again. "Life ain't fair. You think 'ur the only one with problems round 'ere? They didn' go lookin' for you especially, ma'am. You're just like anyone else 'ere."

Once. Just once. I want to try stretching my wings and flying.
Wistful emerald eyes stared out into the open sky. Hiccup had been sitting there toward the back of the yard for what felt like an eternity, just staring out into the sky and daydreaming. He had wings, so why couldn't he test them? Probably because if he tried it someone would shoot him out of the sky in an instant. That, and he didn't have the slightest idea of how to actually take off. Toothless had made it look so easy. Now that Hiccup had Night Fury features, he had thought maybe he could try flying as well. As it turned out, though, he barely knew how to make his wings flap. If any of the dragons from home could see him, they probably would be laughing at him at that very moment.
Just as Hiccup's thoughts began to wander to that topic, his gaze shifted from the sky and over toward Miku and Tobias. Two unfamiliar faces, he realized. Hiccup had at least seen Droite and Crona in the catacombs before. These two, on the other hand, were completely unfamiliar to him. A part of his mind told him to just avoid them and go about with his daydreaming. Another part, though, told him to get up and talk to them. What was the worst that could happen? Ultimately, that part of his brain won out and Hiccup was soon standing up to approach the two unfamiliar individuals.
"Um... hey." Hiccup greeted. It wasn't the greatest way to start out a conversation, he realized, but it was better than nothing. "Good to see I'm not the only one that got brought out here." he said.

"No... of course not..." Miku whispered, looking back down at the ground. He was right. But that didn't change the fact of the situation she was in... She looked up when she heard another voice. It was another boy. But he himself had some differences. "Are you... did they take you as well?"

Hiccup felt his ear-like appendages twitch uncomfortably as Miku asked her question. He hadn't thought about it before, but he did know he wasn't in Berk anymore. Hiccup's best guess was that he had been captured somehow. It would explain why he couldn't remember what had happened after he had left Toothless so he could investigate the forest. "I guess so. I think I blacked out for most of what happened, though. All I know is I woke up in a cage and had all of... this." Hiccup said before gesturing to all of him and spinning around briefly with his wings tucked in so he could at least show them off a little.
"I'm Hiccup, by the way." he said. He knew it was a strange name, but figured he should get his introduction out of the way before someone asked his name and asked what kind of person would name their son Hiccup. It was just easier that way.

Toby turned sharply. He was always so jumpy, and that quality had only amplified upon arriving here. But where he had come from, one had to be aware of their surroundings to survive. And compared to the workhouse, where mice crawled on you while you slept and you practically had to fight the other children for air to breathe, this place was a minefield.
The boy who'd arrived was...strange looking, to say the very least. But, so were most of the people(or former people, rather) around here. But this boy was especially strange. The other mutations Toby had thusfar been able to identify; Miku and Frankie were part goat, the vampiress was obviously part bat, etc. But Hiccup, as he was apparently called, was something else all together. It reminded him of a creature he'd once seen in a fairytale book...a dragon?
Whatever. It wasn't his job to criticize experiments. Not saying that he could do a better job, of course... "Tobias," the boy replied a bit stiffly. Not Toby. Tobias was a mature, man's name. And this boy looked a few years older than him; no sense in looking childish around him. Time to make sure his place was known. "Who sent you out 'ere? I hav'n't seen you around before...just how long ago did they snatch you up?"

Another shrug. Hiccup didn't know the names of the workers that hung around the catacombs. The best he could do was vaguely associate a name to the redhead Droite called her sister. "They were just like 'Get up, dragon boy' and sort of dragged me out here. I didn't have much of a say in the matter. I mean, what am I going to do to them? Whack them with my tail?" Hiccup asked. He'd contemplated trying it, but decided against it. He could hardly believe he was even thinking of doing something along those lines in the first place. "So, here I am. I don't even know what I'm supposed to be doing in the show, if you can even call it a show. I'm almost hoping I get stuck in the sideshow section instead of the actual performance." he sighed.
As for how long ago he had gotten there, Hiccup had no clue. The poor teen had spent most of his time upon arrival unconscious, and the days that had followed his discovering his essentially being a Night Fury had been filled with pain as he tried to grow accustomed to his new features. "Honestly? I have no idea how long I've been here. According to the green-haired girl that looks like a feathery dragon... Droite, I think her name is, I've been here... a couple of days? It's hard to say for certain." Hiccup said.
