The world was normal until recently. Everything was where it should have been, dimensions stayed separate and everyone was happy (mostly). That, is until something changed the world as we know it irrevocably.
A group of villains, one Evil League of Evil, found a tiny snag in space-time and tried to tear it further and rupture the carefully-maintained fabric of all the separate dementions to wreak havoc upon the world.
They succeeded. Dimensions were opened and some totally obliterated, throwing countless numbers of people and animals and things from dimensions everywhere, dumping them in what was once our world.
The California Institute of Technology put some of their most brilliant scientists to work to try and develop a solution, and when they thought they had found one, it failed, only making the rip even larger and releasing much darker, terrible things into this world that were once beyond our wildest dreams. Our world is now in chaos, headed for certain doom if someone somewhere doesn't figure out a way to restore peace to all the worlds and bring things to what they once were.
And now there is a massive war between those who are "good" and "evil", and many others are just trying to survive in the strange world in get back to their own universes. Everything can end unless we stop this and set everything right again.
