Quote: "You wouldn't want to sleep in a place like that, ma'am. Not with the things that happened in the dark."
Name: Tobias Ragg
Alias: Toby
Age: 13
Film/Show/Game/Book/Comic: Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Species: Human
Height: 5'1
Weight: 110 lbs
Basic Appearance:
Toby is short, rather thin for his age, and has the appearance of someone who's been without food or decent care for quite a long time. His hair is dark brown, and his eyes are the same. He generally wears whatever he can find, an outfit typically consisting of a dirty pair of trousers, a vested, collared shirt, and a dingy blue overcoat several sizes too large.
Picture:
Personality:
Toby started out as a rather optimistic young boy, despite his less than pleasant circumstances. He's very grateful for the few good things presented to him in life, but has been forced to grow up much too fast for his own good. As a result of his short bout of insanity due to Sweeney's murder of Mrs. Lovett, Toby has grown much colder than before, having lost the one person in his life who generally seemed to care for him and murdering her killer at such a young age. There is still a glimmer of what he once was hiding within himself; it just takes a lot to bring it out.
Enemies: Sweeney Todd, Pirelli, Turpin
Allies: Left for RP
Family: None
Role: Worker(later will turn to acts side and try and help them escape)
History:
Toby was orphaned at a very young age, and sent to the workhouse in a rather short time. He spent the first ten years of his life there, before he was spotted by a certain Adolfo Pirelli, an Englishman who needed an assistant to help him with his roadside barbering career.
Toby thought he'd found an escape from the horrors of the workhouse, but Pirelli turned out to be a completely new nightmare for him to deal with. He was abusive, and used Toby to try and sell his "Miracle Elixir," which supposedly prevented hair loss.
However, one day a particularly bold rival barber by the name of Sweeney Todd, challenges Pirrelli to a competition, calling him a fraud and saying that his elixir is nothing but "piss and ink." Pirelli excepts his competition, loses, and takes his anger out on Toby(as usual).
Later, Pirelli returns with Toby to Todd's barber shop, sending Toby into Mrs. Lovett's pie shop beneath. Todd kills Pirelli, and in turn Mrs. Lovett takes in the unknowing Toby. Toby begins to work for both Todd and Mrs. Lovett, but is unaware of the barber's murderous tendencies, or the fact that the meat being used for the pies comes from the murdered customers. His feelings towards Mrs. Lovett grew, to the point where he viewed her a mother figure, and she in turn viewed his as the child she never had.
Toby never trusted Mr. Todd, and voiced his concerns to Mrs. Lovett, telling her that no harm would come to her, so long as he was around. Mrs. Lovett, fearing that Toby knew too much, sent him below into the bakehouse to supposedly learn to bake the pies, locking him in to tell Mr. Todd about her fears. While there, Toby learns that the pies are made of human flesh, and tries to escape, only to find that he is locked in. Terrified, he runs into the catacombs, hiding until he witnesses Todd throwing Mrs. Lovett into the oven for her own misdeeds. Driven mad with anger and grief, Toby slits Todd's throat with one of his own razors, then disappears into the night, never to be seen again.
Shortly after this Toby attempted to find work, having become a much more solemn and unhappy boy than he was before. Eventually, he happened upon the Dark Woods Circus, who allowed him to clean up the cages and other small jobs for cheap pay, lodging, and food. Though initially disturbed by the circus, Toby finally got over his guilt, viewing the circus acts as the only outlets for his inner turmoil. Sometimes, when no one is around, he sneaks into the transformation tent, experimenting on stray animals he finds with the spare parts and equipment he finds in the tent. Soon, he will attempt to move onto a bigger project: one of the human exhibits.
Sample Post:
Toby dutifully swept at the straw-covered floor of the emptying circus tent, pushing the much too large broom in his hands in a routine, almost robotic manner. His eyes never strayed from the floor, as though the only thing on his mind was the task set before him of sweeping up empty popcorn containers and other pieces of filth and trash.
However, beneath this fabricated mask, Toby's mind was a mess of confused and troubled thoughts. Earlier that morning, before the show, he had sneaked into the big top, and climbed the ladder that led up to the tightrope high above the ground. Using the silver barber knife, he'd carefully cut into several stands of the thick rope. Not enough to where it would fall apart on its own; but just enough to where it would snap if enough weight had been put on it.
Perhaps that was the explanation to why one of the trapeze artists had fallen to her death that night. Of course, Toby would never admit to himself that he'd done it out of anything other than curiosity. How was he to know that a forty-foot drop would kill the wretched old freak?
Toby's face remained emotionless as he reached the area where the woman had fallen, eyes passing over her broken form that had been lying there since her "accidental" fall. It was his job to remove the bodies, as well as the other bits of trash that fell to the floor of the circus tent, so it wasn't incredibly shocking for it to still be lying there an hour after the show. Pausing for a moment, as though to reflect over his actions, Toby turned his attention back to the broom, sweeping her up in a bloody mess with the other bits of filth and debris he'd swept up so far.
His didn't get paid to feel sorry for the acts; why should he care what became of them?
