History: Soul and Maka were two of the best students at the DWMA. The pair were close to reaching their goal of making Soul into a Death Scythe, and Soul was pumped. Everything was going according to plan, at least until the night the pair took on the supposed witch Blair. Soul tricked Blair into thinking he was abandoning Maka, tricking her in the process, and obtained Blair's soul. However, since it was the soul of a cat with magical powers instead of an actual witch... it was a dud. Soul and Maka had to start their soul collecting all over again.
With that turn of events, the pair had more time to spend with their friends Black*Star, Tsubaki, Kid, Liz, and Patty, but Maka was still as determined as ever to reach their goal. One night, though, things took a turn for the worse. Soul and Maka ran into a kid named Crona in Italy, but it turned out he wasn't an ordinary kid. He was a meister with the demon sword Ragnarok quite literally inside of him, and the pair were collecting human souls to turn into a Kishin. Maka and Soul tried to stop them, but Crona was too tough for them. When it looked like things would end badly for the pair Soul took a bad blow for Maka and got himself seriously injured. He was rescued thanks to Spirit and Stein showing up to save them. Thanks to taking that hit for Maka, though, Soul ended up with some of Ragnarok's black blood inside him. As a result, a little demon of sorts began to try and tempt Soul to give in to the madness brought about by the black blood. For the most part, though, Soul ignored the temptations.
Soul's relationship with Maka became a bit strained after their fight with Crona. Maka didn't want to see Soul get hurt again, and so she swore to become stronger. However, in the process of becoming stronger their connection began to drift apart. It almost cost them a fight with an immortal werewolf named Free, but thanks to the werewolf's incompetence they were still able to win. After that fight, Soul and Maka seemed to have patched things up between them. They wouldn't have another chance to fight Free until the night Medusa attempted to resurrect the Kishin Asura. Instead of fighting Free, however, they decided to fight Crona when they found him in the depths of the DWMA. Crona proved to be as strong as ever, and when it looked like they might lose Soul suggested using the black blood in order to stand a chance against Crona. Maka agreed, and Soul was almost pulled completely into the madness while Maka went into Crona's soul to find out more about him. To Soul's surprise once he and Maka were pulled out of the madness, Maka was able to befriend Crona and put an end to their fight.
Despite that, however, they were unable to stop the resurrection of Asura. The DWMA went to great lengths to try and get ready for what might happen, and Soul and Maka prepared as well. The pair participated in the attempt to obtain the weapon Brew in which Soul and Maka discovered they were able to perform the Soul Resonance move Genie Hunter, which Maka's mother had pulled off before. Soul and Maka worked to perfect it, but couldn't seem to pull it off a second time. Soul was laid back about it, though, telling Maka to not worry about it and let it happen when it did.
Eventually, it was found out that Crona had betrayed the DWMA by implanting a device in the Death Scythe, Marie, that would speed along Stein's insanity. Soul and Maka were the ones that found Crona and brought him back, and tried to convince the others that Crona hadn't done it on purpose. Eventually Crona was forgiven and he and Marie went to rescue Stein, but Soul knew Maka would want to go after them. He was correct, and Maka did drag him along to go after Crona. Through the fight between them, Stein, and Medusa, Crona was thought to have been killed. It motivated Maka enough to want to kill Medusa, and she and Soul seemed to succeed. When it was discovered that Crona was in fact alive, they rushed back to the DWMA to keep him from dying.
After that, Soul and Maka participated in the final fight against Asura. They were successful, and after that things seemed to return to normal. Nothing could possibly go wrong after that.
Then, one day, Crona mysteriously vanished from the DWMA. Knowing that Maka would be worried about his safety, Soul decided to strike out on his own to find where Crona had gone. His search led him away from Death City and into a strange place where a circus was located. Soul didn't quite know what to make of it at first, but he soon heard things about a freakish boy about his age with a demon coming out of his back. Knowing this had to be Crona, Soul went to find him. To his horror, though, when he did find Crona he found that the poor boy had been placed in a freakshow and that Ragnarok was unable to hide himself any longer. Outraged at what had been done to Crona, Soul decided to join the protesters to try and free those who had been forced to become a part of the horrifying circus.
Sample Post: What was this strange place? Soul couldn't make heads or tails of it, and was just plain irritated by the time he had finally figured out where he ought to be going. Maka had better appreciate all this effort I'm going through to track down this kid. Soul though irritably. Crona. That was the only reason Soul had left the DWMA and Death City at all. If it weren't for Maka's friendship with that pink-haired kid, Soul wouldn't have come. He would have stayed in Death City and continued to hang out with Black*Star and the others.
Soon enough, Soul arrived at his destination. He had been told that someone had seen a pink-haired kid around the supposed 'freakshow', and Soul wanted to find out if his hunch about it being Crona was correct. However, what he found wasn't what he expected at all. Soul had expected to find Crona viewing the show, dragged there by Ragnarok and against his will. What he saw was much different. There was the familiar pink-haired kid he knew, but instead of being among the spectators like he had thought Crona was, in fact, stuck in a cage. "C-Crona...?" Soul asked. What was going on?
